TRIPOLI: Libya’s warring factions have accused one another of violating a ceasefire proposed by Turkey and Russia.

The accusations come as fighting continues around the capital, Tripoli today, international media reports have said.

The Russian and Turkish Presidents had called for the ceasefire to begin on Sunday — more than nine months into an offensive on Libya’s capital by the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The LNA and the Tripoli-based, internationally recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) had assured of conditionally agreeing to the truce.

The GNA, however, said that it had recorded gunfire in the Salaheddin and Wadi Rabea areas soon after the ceasefire was meant to start on Sunday.

Exchanges of fire could be heard in Ain Zara and Salaheddin districts from early on Sunday morning, reports said. (Agencies)
