Khatiwada says he would facilitate amendment to MCC

KATHMANDU: Proposed Ambassador to the United States former Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada has said that he would facilitate the revision of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Khatiwada said during a parliamentary hearing on Thursday that he was in touch with the MCC side, adding that he was familiar with the interest within the party.

“As I am a political person and I have listened to the comments and interests of the party closely, their understanding can be enhanced by discussing these issues and expressing our views,” he said “I have talked about my role in facilitating.”

During the hearing of Khatiwada, the lawmakers had questioned how he could pass the MCC as an ambassador as he could not pass it even while he was in Nepal.

In response, Khatiwada said that he would only act as directed by the foreign ministry.

“I am now in a position to follow the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I may have some personal thoughts but now I will follow the instructions given by the government regarding MCC, ‘he said.

During the hearing, Nepali Congress lawmakers questioned Khatiwada about failing to pass the MCC, while Nepal Communist Party lawmakers questioned the amendment.
