KATHMANDU: Former Minister and leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) Karnali Pradesh Parliamentary Party Jeevan Bahadur Shahi has refuted the news published by the Global Times, the mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party.

Shahi said he and his party NC have been concerned with the fabricated news disseminated by the Global Times in which China has labeled the conclusion of the field report on the Nepal-China border dispute as baseless.

The Global Times had recently reported that the Nepali Congress (NC), India and Western powers were inciting Nepal-China border dispute and that Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, who is also a central member of the Congress, was leading anti-China activities.

Issuing a press note, Shahi said, “If the team of experts from both the countries and locals led by the study confirmed that China had not encroached the border, I am ready to undergo any punishment.”

He complained that China made such allegations because the Nepali government neglected to protect its land.

According to Shahi, China has published the news by adding the name of itself and its party to cover up the issue of border encroachment.

Stating that it would not be acceptable for either India or China to cross the border, Shahi said, he was “seriously concerned” about the baseless allegations made by China.

He further stated that the reality will be clear when they go to the border post with sincerity and monitor it.

Recalling that China had submitted a report on border crossings to his party, including on-site studies and photographs, he accused China of trying to cover up the border crossing issue when the government was not interested.

The Shahi-led study team submitted a report to its party, the Congress, claiming that China had crossed the border.

The report was also sent to the Prime Minister through the local administration. Shahi has challenged to confirm the border by conducting an on-site study. He said he would resign if an expert team from both countries, including locals, confirmed that China had not crossed the border.

Shahi in the news said he and his party NC have been concerned with the fabricated news disseminated by the Global Times in which China has labeled the conclusion of the field report on the Nepal-China border dispute as baseless.

In the press note, Shahi has challenged the China government to furnish the evidence to prove that no Nepali land in Humla has been encroached.

Shahi in the press release has maintained that the evidence has clearly shown China has not only encroached land in Lolongjom but also in the other areas.

China has built an iron gate and a barbed wire near the pillar no. 9 (2) in the no man’s land zone near Hilsa breaching the international border protocol, claims the press note.
