Department of Water Supply gets first female Director-General



KATHMANDU: Government of Nepal has appointed the first female as the Director-General to Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management (DWSSM).

Minister for Water Supply appointed Meena Shrestha to the department. Earlier, she was working as the Deputy Director-General at the department.

Outgoing Director-General Sunil Kumar Das has been transferred to the ministry.

Shrestha has assumed her responsibilities since Friday, said Ritesh Kumar Shakya, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the ministry.

A meeting of the Ministry of Water Supply on Friday decided to appoint Shrestha, said Shakya.

Shrestha was the senior among the Joint Secretaries working in the drinking water department.

“She was picked based on seniority,” said Spokesperson Shakya.

She is the first woman to be appointed as Chief in the nearly 50-year history of the department.
