High-ranking CIAA officials including chief test positive for COVID-19

KATHMANDU:  High ranking officials of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) have been infected with coronavirus after it spread to the community level.

The Health Ministry, in a press meet organized on Tuesday, said high ranking officials including Chief Commissioner of the CIAA have been diagnosed with the virus.

However, the names of those infected with the virus have not yet been divulged officially.

The high level CIAA official who was first detected with the coronavirus had attended a meeting of the parliamentary committee.

As many as 15 CIAA officials had been infected with the virus for the first time on August 4.

On August 5, a CIAA team including Chief Nabin Kumar Ghimire had participated in a meeting of State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives.

According to sources, Chief Commissioner Ghimire, other commissioners Dr Ganesh Joshi, Dr Sabitri Thapa, Spokesperson Taranath Adhikari had participated in the meeting.

They had also distributed copies of an annual report printed at the CIAA office to journalists and lawmakers.

The officials representing CIAA had not put on masks during the meeting. More than 15 lawmakers, 10 journalists among other officials were present in the meeting.
