Writ filed at SC demanding to regain encroached Lipu Lekh

KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court, demanding to return back Lipu Lekh, the Nepali territory which has been encroached by India to construct a road.

Lawyers—Lokendra Oli, Dipendra Adhikari and Keshar Jung KC, filed the writ today naming the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Home Ministry, Defense Ministry, Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Land Management and Cooperatives as defendants.

The writ demands a mandamus order in the name of the government to take its land back immediately by holding diplomatic talks. India has constructed the road to Mansarovar in China via Nepali territory—Lipu Lekh.

The issue came to light after the Indian Defense Minister inaugurated the road via video conference on May 8.

India had also released a new political map in November 2019 by including more than 395 square kilometers of Nepali territory in it. Another writ on this matter is under consideration at the apex court.
