KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central member and former Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala claims she would resolve the border dispute with India provided that a talk team was formed under her.

She made the proposal at a meeting of the parliamentary International Relations Committee while drawing the attention of the concerned to form a team representing all political parties under her to hold talks with the Indian side.

Koirala’s proposal comes at a time when most political parties – both ruling and the opposition – have criticized the KP Oli-led government for failing to take effective steps against the encroachment of Nepali land.

She also said that merely resorting to nationalist rants will not help resolve the issue. “We need to come up with solution,” she said.

NC leader Koirala also suggested that Bangladesh can be an alternative to India for transit.

There has been wide criticism from all walks of life soon after Indian inaugurated a link road connecting Indian to Tibet’s Mansarovar in Nepal’s Lipu Lekh area.

Nepal has, meanwhile, stated that as per the Sugauli Treaty of 1816, all territories east of Mahakali River, including Kalapani, Limpiyadhura, and Lipu Lekh belong to Nepal.
