70,000 driving license “ready for distribution”

KATHMANDU: As many as 70,000 driving licenses are ready for distribution at the Ekantakuna-based Transport Management Office (TMO), Kathmandu.

According to sources, the office is yet to distribute about 70, 000 licenses. According to Sambar Bahadur Karki, the Chief of TMO, there have been big numbers of beneficiaries who have not been to collect the driving licenses printed long before.

“There are licenses printed in last two or three months to last two three years lying uncollected by the beneficiaries,” Karki said, adding “The licenses were printed in bulk after the procurement of the mass printer.”

He added that the office got all due licenses of previous years printed and sent for distribution in last one year.

TMO sources claim that the number of beneficiaries has declined after lifting lockdown and prohibitory orders.

The office informed that 15,000 licenses are yet to be printed.

TMO has stalled distributing the driving license to new applicant and has been distributing only the ones submitted in the office for renewal.
