Nepali traders warn of sit-in on Nepal-China border over border closure

KATHMANDU: The Nepal National Traders’ Federation (NNTF) has warned of staging a sit-in on the Nepal-China border saying that China unilaterally closed the border points.

Stating that a large number of container vans have been stuck on the China side, the NNTF has also urged the government to take the initiative to open the border points at the earliest.

President of the NNTF Naresh Ktuwal in a press note said hassles seen on the Nepal-China border points have remained unresolved despite frequent requests to the government.

“Many container vans have been stuck on the Nepal-China border. China side is allowing only one or two container vans a day. The Nepal government has to resolve this issue through diplomatic means at the earliest,” reads the press note.

According to Nepali entrepreneurs, seven cargo trucks have been stuck on the China side for the last 10 months since China blocked the border point citing COVID-19 pandemic.
