KATHMANDU: Ujyalo Nepal Party has accused the current government of focusing more on publicity than addressing the country’s economic challenges.
Announcing the decisions of the party’s central committee meeting at a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the party said the government should prioritise restoring public confidence and optimism in the economy rather than pursuing what it described as publicity-driven initiatives.
The party said it would continue to support government policies and decisions that serve the public interest, while strongly opposing decisions it considers anti-public, poor governance, institutional weaknesses, the protection of corruption and irresponsible conduct in the administration of the state.
The central committee also expressed concern over what it described as growing weaknesses in governance, stressing that no individual, office or authority should stand above the Constitution, the law or established procedures.
Party Chair Kulman Ghising said there was increasing public concern that decision-making had become overly centred on individuals rather than institutional processes, warning that such a trend could undermine the credibility of democratic institutions and erode public trust in the state.
He also criticised the appointment of personal secretaries and advisers from outside the civil service, alleging that their interference in ministries had discouraged senior bureaucrats and career civil servants.
Ghising said the party’s central committee had endorsed a long-term national vision titled “Green Revolution, Prosperous Nepal” as a roadmap for the country’s economic and social transformation.
