NEB will issue certificates to SEE students: Education Minister

KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel has said that the National Examinations Board (NEB) will issue certificates to the students to Secondary Education Examination (SEE) students.

The government has decided to cancel the national level exam from this year owing to coronavirus pandemic.

The decision to this effect was made at a Cabinet meeting held Wednesday evening. Students this year could not appear for the SEE due to the global coronavirus pandemic that has affected Nepal as well.

Students, who could not sit in the SEE due to coronavirus, will be upgraded or given the grade on the basis of their internal performance this year. The respective schools will evaluate internally, according to the decision.

“Based on the internal assessment done by schools, NEB has decided to issue the certificate,” Pokharel said. “Further details will be provided by the concerned bodies in due course.”

He said that the necessary decision was taken as it was not appropriate to keep the students and parents confused for a long time.

It should be recalled that the government had on March 19 decided to postpone the SEE scheduled to be conducted from March 20 due to the risk of possible coronavirus outbreak then.

A total of 482,219 students across the country were set to sit for the SEE this year.
