Finance Minister Poudel scraps tax on books imposed by ex-Minister Khatiwada

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has scrapped the tax levied on imported books by Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada.

Former Finance Minister Khatiwada had imposed a 10 percent tax on imported books through the budget for the last fiscal year.

Minister Poudel reversed the decision after assuming the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance.

A Cabinet meeting held on Monday removed the tax imposed by the government on book imports.

Khatiwada had become very unpopular due to the imposition of taxes in various sectors. The government’s tax on book imports was widely criticized.
