KATHMANDU: The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has expressed serious concern over the communal tension and violence in Kaptanganj and other parts of Sunsari district.
In a statement, party chair Rabi Lamichhane said the entire party was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the incident and the tense situation that followed.
The party extended condolences to the family of the person who lost their life and wished a speedy and full recovery to all civilians and security personnel injured in the clashes.
Stressing that no dispute or grievance can be resolved through violence or confrontation, RSP said Nepal’s greatest strength lies in its pluralistic culture, social harmony, mutual unity and longstanding tradition of tolerance.
The party appealed to the public, community leaders, religious figures and all stakeholders to refrain from any activities that could further disrupt communal harmony. It also urged people to remain calm and not be influenced by rumours or misinformation.
RSP said it had been coordinating with the government and local administration to help restore normalcy and maintain law and order. It called for a swift and impartial investigation into the incident, legal action against those responsible, justice for the victims, and arrangements for relief and free medical treatment for the injured.
The party also urged all political parties not to politicise the incident under any pretext, saying efforts should instead focus on restoring peace through dialogue. It added that its local committees had been instructed to play a constructive role in maintaining communal harmony and supporting peaceful resolution efforts.
