KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal has decided to allow the people to leave Kathmandu Valley on Friday and Saturday.

A meeting of the high-level government committee to prevent and contain novel coronavirus today made the decision to this effect considering people, particularly college students and daily wagers, who left the Valley on foot amid the extended lockdown.

People wishing to leave the Valley, however, needs to coordinate and acquire permission from the local levels.

However, people are not allowed to enter the Valley in the two-day period in view of possible COVID-19 transmission.

Update: After criticism from several quarters, the government has rolled back its decision to let people stranded in Kathmandu due to the lockdown leave the Valley. The decision of the government didn’t last even for one and a half hours.
