Province Assembly session remains uncertain

SURKHET: With a lockdown order from the federal government for prevention and control of COVID-19, the winter session of Karnali Province Assembly has been pushed into uncertainty.

The Province Assembly meeting which was postponed by issuing a notice on 26 March is not likely to continue since the lockdown has been extended further. Six meetings were held after the beginning of the fifth session of Province assembly on February 7.

Secretary at Province Assembly Jibraj Budhathoki said that eight bills including a bill on food production rights and sovereignty, bill on consumer rights and bill on public-private partnership are under consideration in the thematic committees.

Budhathoki said it was not finalized whether to continue or end the ongoing session of Province Assembly.

“Time has come to go for preparation of budget session. The government will take appropriate decision by holding consultations with Province assembly over the end of the winter session,” Budhathoki said.
