Cardamom export thru Kakarbhitta rises sharply in last FY

BHADRAPUR: The export of cardamom through the Kakarbhitta Customs Point increased significantly in the last fiscal year, driven by strong demand for Nepali cardamom in the international market.

Cardamom worth more than Rs 12.63 billion was exported through the customs point in the fiscal year 2082/83 BS. This marks an increase of Rs 4.96 billion compared to the previous fiscal year.

According to the Customs Office, cardamom export grew by 64.6 per cent in the last fiscal year compared to the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, when exports stood at Rs 7.67 billion.

A total of more than 6.38 million kilograms of cardamom was exported in the fiscal year 2082/83 BS, up from 4.29 million kilograms in the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, said Information Officer at the Kakarbhitta Customs Office, Mangkal Rai. Rai attributed the rise in exports to increased demand for Nepali cardamom in the international market.

He expressed confidence that exports could grow in the coming years if the production, quality and market access of Nepali cardamom are further improved.
