KATHMANDU: The government has decided to take program-based initiatives for resolving problems seen in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The government’s commitment comes in response to the complaints by industrialists and the business community that a business-friendly environment was lacking at the Bhairahawa SEZ owing to various problems – the major being shortage of electricity supply.

The government had established the Bhairahawa SEZ with a goal of reducing the trade deficit and to pave way for economic prosperity.

Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Lekhraj Bhatta stated that the Ministry would form a committee to address problems seen in SEZ and monitor the situation through this.

He also said that the government would take special initiatives to identify the problems seen in SEZ and resolve them.
