CTEVT contract workers stage protest demanding job security

KATHMANDU: Contract, monthly and daily wage workers of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) have staged a protest outside the council’s central office in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, demanding job security and other benefits.

The Contract, Monthly and Daily Wage Workers Central Struggle Committee staged a sit-in at the office, demanding arrangements to allow workers to continue working in their existing positions and ensure their employment and service benefits.

The committee has demanded that 74 workers who have been removed from their jobs be reinstated.

It has also demanded that contract workers be provided with facilities including Dashain advance, uniforms, training, and remote-area and local allowances.

Similarly, the committee has called for monthly wage workers to be allowed to continue working under the existing arrangement and receive facilities including uniforms.

The workers have also urged the management not to unilaterally alter their employment status or working conditions.

The committee has called on the management not to discriminate against, prejudice or retaliate against workers for participating in the protest.

The workers have demanded a written commitment from the management regarding their demands, along with a clear implementation timeline and action plan.

The committee said it was ready to resolve the issues through dialogue and agreement rather than confrontation.

However, it warned that it would continue its protest and pressure campaign until its demands are addressed.
