KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) parliamentary party meeting in Province 3 today failed to make any decision regarding the name of the province and its capital.

The party Secretariat has already decided to name the province Bagmati and make Hetauda the provincial capital.

The parliamentary party meeting will resume on Friday morning, party leaders said.

The NCP Secretariat meeting had on December 29 decided to name the province Bagmati and make Hetauda its capital.

However, several leaders of the ruling party from the province have expressed dissatisfaction over the Secretariat’s decision.

Party leaders and lawmakers, mainly those representing the province, are divided on the issue. However, party top brass, including Chairmen Pushpa Kamal Dahal and KP Oli, as party insiders say, are preparing to issue whip to implement the Secretariat decision.

Some lawmakers, who categorically reject the decision, have insisted that the decision would not be acceptable.

According to a NCP leader, who supports the party’s decision, said that the NCP will now issue a whip on the issue, which is sure to aggravate the situation.

A majority of NCP lawmakers of Province 3 have opposed the decision terming it impractical.

Several lawmakers insist that Kavre be made the provincial capital.

The party has two-third majority in the 110-strong provincial assembly with 80 seats.
