Public transport entrepreneurs announce operating vehicles from Sept 17

KATHMANDU: Public transport entrepreneurs have announced operating public vehicles from September 17, accusing the government of failing to address their grievances.

A formal decision will be taken on Thursday through a meeting of the Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneur (FNNTE), said Deepak Adhikari, senior vice president of the umbrella organization of public transport entrepreneurs.

Adhikari said that they have informed the Department of Transport Management on Wednesday that the joint meeting of the federation and transport-related trade unions has decided to resume public transport.

“The government did not give any option even if long-haul public vehicles have remained closed for six months. We will inform the government in writing about this on Thursday,” Adhikari told Khabarhub.

Entrepreneurs have objected to the government’s decision not to operate public transport although they are ready to adopt necessary health protocols.

Entrepreneurs have been battered as the government has not decided on route permits, renewal fees and insurance, he added.
