Police on duty without PPEs

KABILBASTU: Police persons who are working round the clock for ensuring security to the public are themselves facing problems for a shortage of basic personal protective equipment.

The police have been mobilized at every settlement and at the border area to enforce the lockdown announced by the government to combat COVID-19 pandemic. A majority of them are working without face masks or gloves.

The police personnel and health workers are mobilized at the frontline in the fight against coronavirus but they have not been provided with the PPEs.

The Kapilbastu Police has managed the PPEs through own resources but that is not sufficient, Kapilbastu District Police Office chief, Superintendent Deep Shamsher JBR said.

According to him, half of around 800 police persons in the district is mobilized for security at various quarantine facilities in the district.

The neighboring district Rupandehi is also struggling with the same problem: the shortage of PPEs for the police personnel.

Rupandehi Police chief Superintendent Hem Kumar Thapa said the District Police Office has managed some PPEs through own resources for the police personnel mobilized for quarantine security but that is not enough for all the police personnel working at the frontline in the COVID-19 prevention.
