Newly-appointed governor Adhikari assumes office

Newly appointed governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Maha Prasad Adhikari took the oath of office and secrecy from Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana on Tuesday.

Adhikari also assumed his office at the central office of NRB in Baluwatar.

A meeting of the cabinet on Monday has appointed Adhikari to the position that was vacant for the past three weeks after the retirement of governor Chiranjibi Nepal.

Nepal to receive USD 29 million from World Bank

Nepal is to receive 29 million US dollars from the World Bank in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The World Bank has approved a fast-track 29 million USD COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Project to help Nepal prevent, detect, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen its public health preparedness, reads a statement issued by the WB Nepal office.

Nepal to suspend int’l flights until April 30

The government has extended the suspension on international flights by 15 days. A meeting of the High-Level Coordination Committee on the Prevention and Containment of COVID-19 held on Tuesday decided to suspend international flights until April 30.

Passenger evacuation flights, freighter flights, rescue flights and other emergency flights can be operated during the period.

KMC assigns 11 places for operation of vegetable market

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has assigned 11 various places for vegetable sales outlets in a bid to minimize crowding at the Balkhu and Kalimati vegetable market.

The places assigned for this purpose are Kalanki Chowk, Bafal Chowk, Swoyambhu Chowk, Banasthali Chowk, Gongabu Chowk, Basundhara Chowk, Gopikrishna Hall Chowk, Teenkune Chowk, Lainchaur, Ratna Park and Koteshwor Chowk.

Vegetables can be sold from these places until 8 am as an alternative vegetable market throughout the lockdown period, according to KMC agriculture department chief, Hari Bahadur Bhandari.

These industries can be operated during lockdown

It has already been two weeks that the government has imposed lockdown and on Monday, it extended the lockdown till April 15.

According to the government decision, Janak Education Material Centre, Melamchi Drink Water Project, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, Bhairawa Regional Airport, Pokhara Regional Airport, Feed Industries and othes can be operated during the lockdown.
