DUBAI: All 176 passengers aboard a Ukrainian airliner that crashed on Wednesday have been killed, Iran’s state television said.

The Boeing 737 belonging to Ukraine International Airlines crashed due to technical problems soon after it took off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini airport.

The plane crashed near the airport and burst into flames.

Pirhossein Koulivand, head of Iran’s emergency services, said the fire was so heavy that we cannot (do) any rescue despite having 22 ambulances, four bus ambulances, and a helicopter at the site.

A spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization Reza Jafarzadeh, said that the number of passengers onboard the flight was 170.

The air tracking service FlightRadar24 said that the plane that crashed was Flight PS 752 and was flying to Kiev. It was a three-year-old Boeing 737-NG.

Boeing spokesman Gordon Johndroe said the company was aware of media reports of a plane crash in Iran and was gathering more information. (Agencies)
