MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty has been awarded the prestigious ‘Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar Award’ for his contribution towards relief efforts at Kovid-19.
Sunil Shetty was honored by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan on Saturday evening. Only 25 people were present during the honor ceremony.
Sunil Shetty empowered women, raised awareness for animal welfare and assisted the Dabbawalas of Mumbai during the lockdown.
The actor arranged for a large supply of food for the Dabbawalas.
After being awarded the ‘Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar Award’, Sunil Shetty said, “Do not do the things that are noted, but do the things to remember … give and forget … accept and always remember .
In July, a Mumbai Mirror report said that Sunil Setty joined hands with Sanjay Dutt and cabinet minister Aslam Sheikh and Mumbai city guard minister and helped the city’s dabbawalas.
Sunil Shetty said in a statement, “This was an initiative started by Aslam Bhai and Sanju, I had no hesitation in joining hands with them.”
Sunil Shetty had also told that trucks filled with food were sent to Pune, where the Dabbawalas were kept in camp in lockdown. Kits of rice, pulses, sugar, flour and oil were transported to the camps at Khed and Malwal.
