DOLAKHA: Relief packages have been provided in the remote Rolwaling village located at Gaurishankar Ruralmunicipality of Dolakha District after the 77 days of lockdown imposed by the government to contain the pandemic virus.

The relief was distributed under the coordination of Geshe Thupten Jinpa in collaboration with Kabje Lama Jopa Rinpoche, Kapan Gumba and Rolwaling Sangag Gumba School.

A total of 36 houses in four Surmuche, Dongang, Kelje and Beding villages were provided 25 kg rice and 3 lt. cooking oil to each family, Volunteers Pemba Rita Sherpa and Dawa Tashi Sherpa informed.

“There are only 40 students in the Rolwaling Sangag Gumba School in our Beding village. All the students are from poor families. We have been providing free education by arranging hostels here. Who will see the hunger of those students and the villagers? ” The head of the school, Nwang Tenji Lama, said.

Even though it is relatively close to Kathmandu, it takes about 3 to 4 days to reach this remote mountain village.

So far, there is no health facility in the village. There is a health post building, but it does not have the necessary health workers, basic health supplies and facilities.

“It has been 77 days that everyone is isolated in the house So far, no one from the ward committee, village municipality or any other concerned body has come here. We are starving and no one cares about the disease, let alone the relief from the government, ” said, Tenzing Sherpa, a local Everest climber.

“Only potatoes and radishes are grown in the village. People have already finished eating the crops of the last. This time we just planted potatoes. If all the people in the village have not stayed with cooperation, many villages would have become skeletons. I heard on the radio that the relief packages would come through the helicopters, but it has not come yet” another local, Kinjum Sherpa, said emotionally.

Beding Village.

Rolwaling village, which falls within the Gaurishankar Conservation Area, is considered to be the most important place in Dolakha district from religious, natural and tourist point of view.

Founded by Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhava) about 2000 years ago, the area is famous for its hundreds of 6,000-meter mountains, including Gaurishankar Himal, Tsho Rolpa Glacial Lake, rare herbs and wildlife such as red pandas, snow leopards and the footpath to enter the Everest region. However, public life seems very difficult.
