KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Gokul Baskota has criticized the power-sharing agreement reached between the chairpersons of the CPN-UML and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), comparing the political arrangement to Bijay Malla’s play ‘Antim Bhoj’ (The Last Supper).
In a satirical post on social media, Baskota said such alliances have become limited to forming and toppling governments rather than addressing broader political issues. He argued that repeated changes in political partnerships need serious review.
Baskota said the latest UML-NCP cooperation appears aimed only at gaining an advantage over Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in the power equation.
“Except for a few specific leaders, the issue of why alliances are formed and why governments collapse remains unaddressed,” he wrote.
Questioning the repeated changes in political alignments, Baskota said leaders continue to move from one alliance to another without considering the interests of the broader party structure.
“Why do they form and collapse governments through repeated mistakes? Except for a few members of the assembly and certain leaders, others do not even get the chance to make mistakes. They keep moving with the wind, carrying their pots along. Isn’t this Bijay Malla’s “Antim Bhoj”? It is astonishing,” Baskota wrote.
