KATHMANDU: Sunrisers Hyderabad has entered the qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in the eliminator held in Abu Dhabi on Friday night.
Chasing the 132-run target set by Bangalore, Hyderabad achieved it in 19.4 overs losing four wickets at the Sheikh Zayed International Cricket Ground.
KS Williamson top-scored with 50 runs including two fours and two sixes off 44 runs and remained not out. JO Holder and MK Pandey made 24 runs each while Captain DA Warner contributed 17 runs for the win of Hyderabad.
Bangalore’s Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets while A Zampa and YS Chahal grabbed one wicket each.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, Bangalore notched up 131 runs losing seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Bangalore’s AB de Villiers made highest 56 runs including five fours off 43 balls. AJ Finch and Mohammed Siraj scored 32 and 10 runs while the other batsmen could not reach double-digit runs.
In reply, Hyderabad’s JO Holder took highest three wickets of Bangalore, T Natarajan grabbed two wickets while S Nadeem picked up one wicket.
Hyderabad will now lock horns with Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier on Sunday. The winner will reach the final.
Delhi had lost to Mumbai Indians in the first qualifier. A provision has it that the loser in the first qualifier can take part in the second qualifier.
Mumbai has already reached the final. The winner of the second qualifier will take on Mumbai. Bangalore which lost to Hyderabad has ended its journey to the competition.
