KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has decided that the public can undergo paid coronavirus tests at government laboratories.
Joint spokesperson at the Ministry Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari said that the test was extended to all 34 government laboratories.
Dr. Adhikari said, “Now, all the government laboratories can conduct paid tests, but not exceeding half of the total tests.”
The government offers free coronavirus testing for those with symptoms, in direct contact with an infected person and frontline workers.
Earlier, laboratories of Bir Hospital, Patan Hospital and TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu Valley and one government laboratory in each province were allowed to conduct paid tests.
Besides, the government has permitted 13 private laboratories to conduct PCR tests.
Those who have been in isolation will also be able to take advantage of the government’s recent decision.
Currently, the government has implemented the system of sending home without testing after isolation.
The government has set a maximum fee of Rs 4,400 for coronavirus testing.
