Japan hands over rehabilitation center in Gorkha

KATHMANDU: The Japan government on Thursday handed over a rehabilitation center for visually impaired people to the Gorkha Association of the Blind amidst a ceremony in Gorkha district.

Speaking at the hand-over ceremony, Yoshioka Yuzo, the Deputy Chief of Mission, said the assistance will help visually impaired people in the district and the surrounding areas to participate in socio-economic activities.

Built at the grant assistance of NPR 8.86 million under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of the Government of Japan, the project was managed by the Gorkha Association of the Blind, according to a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu.

The GGP project had supported the construction of a two-storey rehabilitation center that will also serve as a care home.

The Gorkha Association of the Blind, a branch of the Nepal Association of the Blind, provides counselling services and training to visually impaired people to help them restart independent living through capacity development.
