As counting continues, Trump complains “tremendous fraud” in mail-in ballots

WASHINGTON: As counting goes on in key states, US President Donald Trump has repeated his assertion of winning the election.

Trump complained of “tremendous corruption and fraud in the mail-in ballots”, without giving evidence for his claim.

Trump took to the White House press room in an attempt to project strength.

It should be noted that mail-in ballots are being counted in four states – Georgia, Arizona, Nevada and Pennsylvania — whose results will decide the election.

Trump said he was “on track to do OK in Arizona”, with 88% of votes counted, shows Democratic candidate Joe Biden ahead, BBC reported.

He further said that “ultimately I feel that judges will have to rule” on the result.

Trump also lashed out at pollsters, ballot-counters and Democrats while promising lawsuits.

Biden, meanwhile, urged people to remain calm as votes are counted. He said he has “no doubt” he will emerge the winner.

Biden currently has a slender lead in Arizona and Nevada.

Overall turnout has been projected to be the highest in over a century at 66.9%.
