122 Chinese Nationals released  at 1000 rupees fine



KATHMANDU: District Administration Office Kathmandu has issued an order to release 122 Chinese nationals rounded from different parts of Kathmandu Valley for their alleged involvement in different criminal activities charging Rs 1000 each as fine.

Citing that no proof supported the previous allegations against them, a report demanding legal action against indecent behavior of the arrested was submitted to the government attorney’s office.

“As the alleged admitted the charge, we as per the demand of the attorney’s office decided to levy 1000 rupees fine from each of them.” Said Janak Raj Dahal, the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu.

“As the defendant confessed the allegation, nothing else remained to be gone into the issue,” the order issued by DAO Dahal said.

The prevalent act hail the provision of charging up to 10,000 rupees as fine in the cases related to Indecent Behavior.

However,  immediately after their arrest, speaking at a regular press briefing at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang had said those arrested were involved in cross-border cyber crimes.

“Based on my information at present, these citizens are suspected of engaging in cross-border cyber fraud activities. The case is still under investigation. This is a major operation conducted in collaboration by the Chinese and Nepali police,” he had said.

While arresting them, Nepal Police had also described it as a remarkable achievement.
