KATHMANDU: Royalists have staged a demonstration in Kathmandu on Saturday demanding restoration of the monarchy.

The demonstration started from Maitighar and reached New Baneshwor, according to the National Civil Movement Committee, 2077.

Protesters chanted slogans in favor of the monarchy during the rally. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leaders are also participating in the demonstration.

Demonstrations have been held in different parts of the country of late demanding to restore the monarchy.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has kept the district administration offices on high alert and has ordered them to keep a vigil on the demonstrations and sit-ins to preempt untoward incidents.

Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs had urged the concerned not to hold mass meetings, rallies, and sit-ins in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to security sources, the government will not use forces but only monitor presuming that the unnecessary use of force would drag the government into controversy.
