Province 5 Assembly meeting resumes amidst obstruction, vandalism by NC lawmakers

BUTWAL: The province assembly meeting of Province 5 has been started amidst obstruction from the lawmakers of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC).

After the Speaker allowed the Law Minister, Kul Prakash KC, to submit the proposal on province capital and name, the Congress MPs tried to stop the minister by chanting slogans. They also smashed chairs in protest.

Later, Minister KC submitted a proposal for discussion.

The party has accused the ruling Nepal Communist Party and the provincial government of defying its proposal to rethink and discuss on the capital, undermining the main opposition.

NC had requested the government to postpone its Monday’s proposal related to identifying the Province capital.

Citing the ruling NCP was in a mood to endorse the proposal by hook or crook, the opposition came to protest in the assembly disrupting the assembly meeting of Monday.

NC’s parliamentary leader in the province Birendra Kanaudiya described the government attempt to endorse the proposal at any cost as identical to dictatorship and vowed to defy it.

“Whatever place is proposed for the Province Capital, the proposal should be justifiable,” he said, “We cannot and will not accept the dictatorship in any guise.”
