13 more Nepali die of coronavirus abroad



KATHMANDU: Thirteen more Nepalis have died of COVID-19 abroad in the past one week.

The Non-Resident Nepali Association’s Health Committee said that the tally includes six deaths in the United Arab Emirates, 5 in India, and one each from Kuwait and Oman.

The Committee said as many as 143 Nepalis succumbed to the virus in 14 countries including the UAE, the UK, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Japan, Ireland, Turkey, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Oman.

Dr Sanjiv Sapkota, coordinator of the Committee said that the infection in other countries except the middle-east is slowing down.

Till Saturday evening, as many as 28,918 Nepalis abroad have been infected with the virus while 25,226 have recovered.

According to the NRNA, Nepalis residing in 37 different countries have been affected by the virus.

Likewise, the rescue of Nepalis left stranded due to coronavirus global crisis has been intensified.

The rescue has been continued through collaborative efforts of NRNA and diplomatic missions based in foreign countries.

In the last one month, as many as 18,293 Nepalis were brought homes from 21 countries.

They have returned from Afghanistan, Oman, Australia, Myanmar, Qatar, Japan, Thailand, Kuwait, Bangladesh, South Korea, the Maldives, Malaysia, UAE, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Hong Kong, the US, Bahrain, and the UK, according to the NRNA COVID-19 high level committee.
