Jhapa police seizes goods, firecrackers worth Rs 1.4 mln



JHAPA: Police have seized smuggled goods including firecrackers worth Rs 1.4 million from Nepal-India border Mechinagar in Jhapa district.

Acting on a tip-off, a police squad deployed from Area Police Office, Kankadvitta seized bed sheets, clothes and ready-made garments worth over Rs 721,000 being smuggled into Nepal from India evading tax, said District Police Office, Jhapa.

Similarly, police have also arrested two individuals with 12 sacks of firecrackers from Mechinagar municipality-10, Shanti Samaj Tole.

The arrested are 29-year-old Prashannajit Darji of Mechinagar-5, and tempo driver 29-year-old Bishwanath Pradhan, said SP Koirala.

Pradhan and Darji have been sent to Area Police Office, Dhulabari for further action.

Police have intensified security checks along the border area in view of firecrackers and other goods to be smuggled goods during the festive season.
