Seven people alleged in relabeling, supplying date-expired goods given bail

Rs 10 million sought as bail amount against PushpaDevi

KATHMANDU: Seven traders alleged in relabeling and supplying date expired goods arrested on Friday have been released on spot bail today.

According to Sagar Mishra, the Director at the Department of Trade Commerce and Consumers Protection, excluding Ronak Bothra, seven alleged arrested have been offered bail.

Director Mishra informed that Ronak Bothra of Rajasthan India, who runs Ion Distributor Pvt. Ltd has confessed his guilt paving way for the bail release of the abettors in the case.

Bothra was found relabeling and supplying date-expired Snickers chocolates, Oreo Biscuit, Tang juice, Pringles chips, and other goods of Unilever Company.

Metropolitan Crime Division of Nepal Police had raided the Kalanki-based store on Thursday and found that date-expired goods were being relabeled there.

Police had then arrested eight people, including Bothra in the same case.

“Bothra has confessed his involvement, we will continue investigation holding him in custody,” he said.

However, Pushpa Devi has been released on spot bail.

The Department has sought Rs 10 million as bail amount from Pushpa Devi Agrawal.

Although run by Bothra, the distributor company is registered in Pushpa Devi’s name.

Mishra said that she had to go to custody provided she fails to deposit the bail amount. He added that the primary investigation has shown no other involvement of Pushpa Devi in the case.

However, Pushpa Devi’s son is absconding after the incident.

The Department has released the workers arrested from the building on spot bail saying they were merely workers and were not even paid for two months.

Those released on the spot bail include the Storekeeper Pappu Thakur, Accountant Munna Thakur, Shyam Prasad Singh, Ram Bahadur Bayalkoti, Sita Ram Uparkoti, and Dilip Thapa Magar.
