Govt to evacuate Nepalis from Friday; 26 Nepalis coming from Burma

KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal will start repatriating its citizens stranded in different countries due to coronavirus pandemic from Friday.

Myanmar Military Airlines carrying 26 Nepalis from Myanmar is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu tomorrow for the first time.

According to a source, Burma’s government has agreed to rescue the Nepalis citizens stranded in Myanmar at the request of Nepal government.

Similarly, the plane is bringing Nepali citizens in Myanmar’s own cost while the plane will take back Burmese national who are currently in Kathmandu.

According to Devendra KC, chief at Tribhuvan International Airport Office, there is a schedule to bring Nepalis from Myanmar and the United Arab Emirates. According to Covid-19 Crisis Management Centers (CCMC) sources, Flydubai will bring 231 Nepalis from UAE tomorrow.

The government has decided to allow the flight by completing both the process of chartering Nepalis planes and bringing them from the airlines of the respective countries in the process of returning the stranded workers, students and other citizens to different countries.

Since all the 26 Nepalis coming from Burma are from Bagmati Province, they will be coordinated by the Minister for Women and Children, Parbat Gurung, from the Tribhuvan International Airport.

The government has formulated a procedure to take the returnees from different countries to the concerned districts and local levels in coordination with ministers of the seven provinces.

Likewise, Minister Gurung has been tasked to take 26 citizens of Bagmati Pradesh to their respective places on Friday.

After landing at the airport, security forces, and Minister Gurung will take to the Yeti Party Palace in Basundhara by bus. The government has set up a holding center there where they will undergo a health check-up there.

After resting for a while at the holding center, Minister Gurung will hand over them to the concerned municipality or rural municipality from there, according to a member of the high-level coordination committee.

However, a repatriated person will be able to go home only after spending 14 days in the quarantine undergoing PCR test.
