Five army officials die in encounter in J&K; 2 terrorists killed



JAMMU & KASHMIR: An intense gun battle lasted for nearly 8 hours in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara between army and militants in which one Colonel, one major, two Army jawans and a police sub-inspector were killed.

India’s news agency PTI said one Colonel, one major, two Army personnel and a police sub-inspector were killed in the encounter.

One among those martyred is the Commanding Officer of 21 Rashtriya Rifles unit, Colonel Ashutosh Sharma.

The army carried out an assault to neutralize militants hiding in the area.
