KATHMANDU: Only essential vehicles and those with permits have been plying the roads since March 24 after Nepal enforced a lockdown to prevent and control the spread of coronavirus.
Police have been checking every vehicle in different places of Kathmandu Valley to make sure that they are allowed to operate. Unauthorized vehicles have been taken under control.
According to the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, 18,281 two-wheelers and four-wheelers violating the lockdown have been taken under control until day 39 of the lockdown. Out of which, 62 vehicles are yet to be handed over to the respective owners, said the division.
There have been 175 road accidents in the Kathmandu Valley despite the lockdown. Eight people have been killed and seven others seriously injured. 118 people sustained minor injuries in the incident.
