Cable television operators demand implementation of clean feed on internet contents

KATHMANDU: Cable television operators have demanded an immediate suspension of broadcasting of unauthorized channels and content from the Android IP TV box used by Internet Protocol TV.

They made the demands while meeting the Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung.

Whether the clean feed is implemented or not is being regulated through the advertisement board constituted by the Ministry. Internet service providers such as Net TV, World Link, Vianet, Hans Net, Prabhu TV, Classic Tech are currently distributing television broadcast signals.

Dhruv Sharma, President of the Federation of Cable TV Entrepreneurs, said, “Rule 5 (b) of the National Broadcasting Rules, 2052 BS has made it mandatory to obtain permission for signal distribution. Television broadcasters and distributors are two different things. IPTV has been doing this without deposing the license fee for signal distribution.”

He said that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology had lost tens of millions of rupees in telecommunication services due to channel broadcasting when internet service providers made free bundling packages of IPTV and distributed internet services.
