Fact Check: News saying ‘SC orders not to take house rent during lockdown’ was fake

KATHMANDU: Last week, a news about Supreme Court (SC) issuing a verdict in the name of the landlords not to take house rent during the lockdown period went viral on social media.

The news first published by a news portal ‘Thahakhabar’ went viral as several other new portals carried the story with some of them copying ditto.

Another news portal, Nepallive, carried the same news. In fact, it was a ‘copy’ of the original news, according to mysansar, which carried out research on the news based on the reports.

However, the news wasn’t true. It came out that the SC justices Tej Bahadur KC and Kumar Regmi had said it was not appropriate to issue an interim order barring landlords to collect the house rent during the lockdown.

This shows that the news that appeared in both the news portals were incorrect.

A news portal named ‘Ratoghar’ carried the same story followed by other portals such as ‘Mayadevionline’, ‘a2zsamachar.con’, ‘dcnepal.com’, ‘onlinetsratv.com’, among others.
