Melamchi landslide update: 7 bodies among 8 missing retrieved



KATHMANDU: Seven bodies out of eight workers who went missing in a landslide in Melamchi municipality-11 in Sindupalchowk ditrict have been retrieved.

Recovered bodies, however, are yet to be identified.  The operation is underway to find the remaining one person, said Area Police Office, Melamchi.

As many as eight workers went missing after the landslide buried their shed near Melamchi Bazaar at the wee hours of Monday.

According to District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk, the missing are Pradip Chaurasiya of Birgunj, Bikram Thing, Man Bahadur Rumba, Rajendra Chaurasiya, Sonam Lama, Shiva Balak, Siman Ghalan and Indian national Rajendra Chudhary.

Melamchi Municipality Mayor Dambar Bahadur Aryal said eight workers who were buried by the landslide were working for the construction of a covered hall at Pipalbot.

The landslide triggered by incessant rains buried a makeshift shanty where they were sleeping on Sunday night.  One of them has been rescued alive.

Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army with the help of locals are carrying out rescue work.
