Minister Chaudhary visits various districts to hear agricultural concern



RUPANDEHI: Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, visited various parts of Rupandehi, Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi districts to take stock of agricultural problems and the challenges faced by local farmers.

During the visits, the Minister held face-to-face discussions with officials from relevant agencies and local farmers about agricultural sub-centres, fertilizer distribution centres, agricultural production, fertilizers, irrigation facilities, electrification, farm roads, crop insurance and market access.

Today, she evaluated the agricultural situation in Marchwarimai, Sammarimai and Kotahimai rural municipalities. The Minister acquired information about agricultural produce collection centre in Sammarimai-6, banana plantation that in 50 bighas of land in Marchwarimai-1, and the Marchwar Lift Irrigation Water Users’ Association in Kotahimai-5.

During the interactions, farmers briefed Minister Chaudhary about crop damage caused by recent windstorms in various parts of the district. They also raised concern over the lack of fair prices for their produce, challenges in marketing bananas and delays in receiving agricultural insurance payment.

Stressing the need for collaboration among the government, local levels, farmers and relevant stakeholders for the development of the agricultural sector, Minister Chaudhary pledged to provide all possible support from her side. (RSS)
