Banke witnesses increase in VAW cases



BANKE: Incidents of violence against women (VAW) have witness an increase in Banke district during lockdown.

According to the District Police Office, Banke, the incidents have increased in the district in the last three months as compared to the corresponding period in the last fiscal year.

The district police office said that a total of 52 complaints of domestic violence, with 44 woman becoming the victims, were filed in the district from March 24 to June 15.

Likewise, eight males have also filed complaints of domestic violence against them.

In-charge of the Women, Children and Senior Citizen Service Centre, Banke, Shyam Kumari Paija Magar stated that several women visit the Centre with direct complaints but do not want to go for FIR as they wanted to settle the issue on mutual understanding and reconciliation.

Meanwhile, as many as seven people including two boys, two girls and three women have gone missing during this period.

Likewise, three boys, a girl and a woman were found in an unclaimed condition.

Likewise, three persons including a child and two women committed suicide while three cases of murder were filed during the period.
