LUCKNOW: At least eight policemen of India’s Uttar Pradesh Police were killed in an encounter with criminals in Kanpur Friday morning, Indian media reports have said.

The encounter occurred when a police team was trying to arrest Vikas Dubey, a history-sheeter facing 60 criminal cases, in Dikru village if Kanpur.

Four policemen, injured in the encounter, are being treated at a hospital, reports said.

An investigation into the case has begun.

As the security team was about to reach the hideout of the criminal, bullets were showered on them from a building rooftop that left Deputy SP Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables dead, authorities said.
