KATHMANDU: First time in the history of Nepal Police, the police custody in Kathmandu is empty.
First time since its establishment, the Hanumandhoka based police custody of Kathmandu is sans detainees.
It used to be occupied by more than 150 people arrested on various allegations almost every day. However, the custody is empty since April 27.
After few detainees there were shifted to Sohrakhutte based Kathmandu Metropolitan Circle, the Hanumandhoka based Metropolitan Police Circle, Kathmandu has become empty in first in 65 years long history.
“Since its establishment 65 years ago, it had never gone empty,” SSP Shyam Gyawali said.
He added that the custody is undergoing maintenance since it has no detainees now. According to SSP Gyawali, no new cases have been registered in the Hanumandhoka circle since Mar. 24, the countrywide lockdown enforcement.
The center used to have nearly 450 detainees sometimes.
