Renowned South African scientist Geeta Ramji dies of ‘coronavirus’



JOHANNESBURG : Renowned South African virologist of Indian origin Geeta Ramji has died of coronavirus.

Ramji died of COVID-19 on Tuesday BBC reported. Professor Ramji had recently returned from Britain.

She had been admitted to a hospital based in Kwajulu-Natal province of South Africa after she complained of some health issues.

African Medical Research Council has claimed that Ramji died of coronavirus. However, her medical report is yet to come out.

Ramji, 64, had been doing research on the prevention of HIV spread in South Africa.

A total of five people have died of coronavirus in South Africa.
