PM Oli admitted to TUTH for kidney re-transplantation



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has been admitted to the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on Monday evening for a kidney re-transplantation.

The prime minister greeted journalists and well-wishers present at the hospital premises before entering the hospital. However, he didn’t make any comment.

The prime minister has been undergoing regular dialysis after the kidney that was transplanted some 12 years ago stopped functioning.

Oli had undergone coronary angiography of his heart at the Maharajgunj-based Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center on February 18.

Doctors opted for re-transplantation after his health report turned out to be normal.

Samiksha Sangraula Gyawali of Jhapa is donating one of her kidneys to Oli this time. Samiksha is Oli’s niece by relation.

Earlier, Oli had undergone his first kidney transplant in 2007 at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi. Anjana Ghimire, a sister-in-law by relation, had donated her kidney to Oil then.

This time 32-year-old Samiksha is donating her kidney to him. She is from Charali, Jhapa.
