KATHMANDU: The incidents of crime have decreased in Bhatapur district this year compared to the previous year, the Metropolitan Police Sector Bhaktapur stated.
The Sector stated this on the basis of the number of crimes recorded in the district in the seven months period from Saun to Magh in the fiscal year 2075/76 and the corresponding period of the fiscal year 2076/77.
Sector spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police, Deepak Giri, said incidents of murder, death by vehicular accident, theft and burglary, looting, kidnapping, drug abuse, rape, among others have decreased.
According to him, 679 incidents of crime were registered in the fiscal year 2075/76 while only 459 cases related to crime have been registered in the seven months period in fiscal year 2076/77.
He said five murder incidents had taken place in the district in the period last year whereas only one murder incident was registered in the corresponding period this year.
Similarly, 37 people lost their life in vehicular accidents in the period in reference last year while 17 people were killed due to the same reason in the corresponding period of this fiscal
Thirty four incidents of rape were recorded in Bhaktapur district in the seven months period till Magh (Mid-February) last year while 21 incidents of rape were registered till Magh in this fiscal year. Sector spokesperson Giri said police have been mobilised to prevent such incidents.
The statistics made public by the police shows that 36 incidents related to drug abuse were registered in the district last fiscal year and this year the number of such incidents registered has decreased to 10.
Similarly, 99 incidents related to theft and robbery were registered in the seven months from Saun (Mid-July) to Magh (Mid-February) last fiscal year and only 55 such incidents were registered in the same period this fiscal year.
However, the cases related to banking fraud have been found increased this year compared to the previous fiscal year.
Seventy six incidents related to banking fraud were registered in the period in reference last fiscal year while the same has increased to 82 this year.
Superintendent of Police at the Sector Sabin Pradhan said the incidents of crime have decreased as the law and order, and security in the district has been beefed up and made effective.
