Coronavirus infections in China hit record, deaths climb to 304

BEIJING: China’s infections from the coronavirus outbreak increased by a record, up by 2,590 cases on Saturday to top 14,000.

This quickly growing epidemic has prompted global travel restrictions and evacuations, reports have said.

The latest death toll in China had reached 304, state broadcaster CCTV said today, citing the country’s National Health Commission.

Most of the new deaths and new infections were in central Hubei province, which is the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.

China has been currently facing mounting isolation as several countries introduce airlines suspend flights, travel curbs, and governments evacuate their citizens.

More than two dozen countries have reported more than 130 cases. However, none of them have been fatal yet.

The World Health Organization (WHO) last week declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern.

It also said global trade and travel restrictions were not needed.

Several countries, however, are responding to fears of the corona virus spreading by ramping up border controls.

The United States and Singapore have already announced measures to ban foreign nationals recently been in China from entering their territories.
